The DC Central Kitchen prepares and delivers more than 5\,000 balanced meals to partner homeless shelters\, rehabilitation clinics\, halfway houses\, and afterschool programs each day. No cooking or food service experience is required. \nVolunteers must be 12 years or older. \nPlease note: if you register and do not show up\, DC Central Kitchen cannot serve the community to the best of their ability. Please be sure to contact us at uvaservice@dchoos.org if your plans should change at least *8 days prior* to our shift (by 4/8). \nWhat to Wear\nStorage space for volunteer personal belongings is limited\, so please plan to travel light. All volunteers must wear appropriate and professional attire suitable for an industrial production kitchen. Please wear closed toed shoes\, sleeves and long pants. Shoes with high-grip soles are strongly recommended. \nLocation\nDC Central Kitchen’s main location is on the ground floor of the Federal City Shelter\, a three-story gray building on the southeast corner of 2nd and E Streets NW. The closest metro stop is Judiciary Square on the Red Line. From the Judiciary Square 4th and D Street exit\, head south on 4th Street NW\, left on D Street NW\, left on 1st Street NW\, and then left into the service alley just south of Sandwiches by Phillip. The entrance to the Kitchen looks like a service/delivery entrance and is marked by a large sign. \nParking\nThere is no on-site parking at our Main Kitchen. Limited parking is available in lots at Union Station\, on E Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets NW\, and on the street.
