Help pack meals for AARP

Meal Pack Challenge (September 11-September 30)

For the past couple of years, DC Hoos have commemorated September 11 by participating in the AARP Foundation’s annual Meal Pack Challenge. This year, we invite Hoos to participate safely at home by packing meals and sending them to the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) for distribution. Help meet their goal of over 2 million food servings by visiting www.mealpackchallenge.org and ordering your box to pack or donate to the cause today!

Because of the pandemic, food insecurity is increasing all over the country and in our own backyard. The CAFB estimates that rising unemployment and poverty will increase food insecurity by 48% – 60% in the Washington Metro Region.

On the website, you’ll find a shopping list created by the CAFB for food items they need. Volunteers can request a packing box with a prepaid shipping label, which will be delivered to their homes. After the box is packed, it can be dropped off at a UPS pick-up location where it will be directly shipped to the CAFB.

The Meal Pack Challenge will run through the end of September and coincides with National Good Neighbor Day (September 28). This event is a chance for DC Hoos to safely give back to the community and help struggling older neighbors. Thanks for your support!
