The UVA Club of Washington, DC and Madison House invites you to join us for a Charter Day community service event at SOME (So Others Might Eat) where we’ll help serve lunch to their constituents. We’ll help plate and pass out meals, refill drinks, run the dishwasher, and clean while serving guests in SOME’s Dining Room for the homeless and poor. SOME’s (www.some.org) comprehensive programs are designed to help people experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty in DC find pathways out of poverty and achieve long-term stability and success.

Please arrive no later than 10:15 a.m. for sign-in and orientation. All volunteers are expected to stay until 1:15 p.m. to help clean and reset the dining room after the last plate is served at 1:00 p.m. All volunteers must be 13 or older, and accompanied by an adult until 16. There is limited space available for this event – please do not sign up for this event if you cannot commit to attending. Once registered you will receive an additional link to register on SOME’s Volunteer Hub – all volunteers must register through their site to participate in the event.

Opened as a small soup kitchen in 1970, SOME now provides 1,000 nourishing hot breakfasts and lunches every day with help from nearly 10,000 volunteers a year. SOME is an interfaith, community-based service organization that exists to help and support residents of our nation’s capital experiencing homelessness and poverty. SOME offers a variety of services, including affordable housing, counseling, addiction treatment, and job training. In addition, SOME helps meet immediate daily needs by providing food, clothing, and healthcare to those in need.

We hope you’ll join us as we give back to the local community!

This event is #open to all alumni, parents, and friends.
