UVA Flag Football Team Rebounds, Brings Record to 2-2
This past weekend, the UVA Flag Football Team rebounded in a big way to bring their record to 2-2. Maryland and Georgia Tech played well, but the UVA team’s defense was stellar, and their offense moved the ball well, capitalizing on some turnovers. Thank you to everyone that made it out for their early double-header. The team will resume play on October 22.
Schedule for the remainder of the season:
October 22nd: 8:00 AM vs. NC State
October 23rd: 11:00 AM vs. Illinois
October 30th: 11:00 AM vs. Syracuse
November 13th: 11:00 AM vs. Boston
November 19th: 8:00 AM vs. JMU
November 20th: 9:30 AM vs. South Carolina
Let’s keep this winning streak going!

President Sullivan Visits DCHoos
On October 6, 2011, President Sullivan visited with over one hundred DCHoos at the JW Marriott to keep local alumni apprised of the latest events and changes at the University, updates to the University’s academic program, and the needs of the Rotunda. This event exhibits President Sullivan’s strong connection with alumni, and alumni’s support for Sullivan and her contributions to the University.
UVaClub of Washington Launches Cavs Connect
For many UVa alumni, connecting with other alums in similar fields or with common social interests is challenging. In an attempt to bring alumni together, the Cavs Connect Program enables alumni both young and old to participate in the professional, personal, and educational development of other alumni.
The program is based on the idea of joining alumni through “clusters” of similar interested and professional goals. We aspire to match alumni with each other to foster the same sense of shared learning that we experienced at the University of Virginia.
Who can participate?
All alumni are welcome to the program. So whether you walked the Lawn last year or 30 years ago, the program will benefit from your participation. (Please indicate whether you want to be a mentor or a mentee on the survey form as well).
When do we meet?
Once paired, the club will sponsor an event once a month for participants of the program to meet and network with other participants in the program.
How often?
You can meet as much as you like, or just come to the monthly meet up. We encourage participants to exchange contact information and meet up individually as well.
How am I matched?
You can participate by completing a 5 minute survey. The survey matches your preferences with the basic criteria of location, profession, and personal interests.
For more information, please visit the Cavs Connect link on our website.
Thank you for your time, and we look forward to your future involvement with the Cavs Connect program!
DCHoos Join AAPAAN-DC for Nationals vs. Braves Game
On September 25, 2011, approximately 25 members of the UVaClub and UVa AAPAAN (the Asian and Asian Pacific American Alumni Network) enjoyed watching the Washington Nationals take on the Atlanta Braves at Nationals Park in Washington, DC for their final home game of the season. Folks ate hot dogs, hamburgers and cracker jacks while the Nats shut out the wild card contending Braves 3-0. Several Wahoo dads brought their sons. In the middle of the 4th inning, we watched the names of our organizations scroll by on the giant screen. We hope to make this an annual event.
DCHoos Meet Ben Olsen, DC United Wins 4-1
It was the perfect day at RFK Stadium – DCHoos were able to meet with Ben Olsen who is an amazing coach and an amazing person. There is not another coach like him in the league! For someone who has accomplished so much, Olsen remains very down-to-earth. Olsen is a real pleasure to be around, and DCHoos had a fun Q&A with him. DC United also finished up with a 4-1 win! DCHoos would like to extend a thank you to Chris Jennings of DC United for organizing this event.
