I am honored and thrilled to serve as Secretary of the University of Virginia Club of DC and support this vibrant community! I have had the joy of connecting with fellow wahoos all over the world and am excited to give back to a community and a university that has given me so much. During my time in Charlottesville, I met many of my closest friends and together we leaned into everything UVA had to offer – student clubs, classes in all the schools, study abroad, and, of course, the list of things to do before you graduate. I have such fond memories of my time at The University and I look forward to reminiscing about our time there with other fellow wahoos in DC!

Adriana Usmayo Macedonio

My time at UVA will forever hold some of the best memories in my life. Not only did I get to live in Charlottesville, near a lot of my closest friends, but I was also part of the Tennis Club and had many wonderful professors. I also spent 2 years volunteering at Madison House, and through that, I was able to connect with other UVA students while helping out the Charlottesville community. I am now very excited to re-engage with UVA alums in DC. I look forward to helping and advocating for DC Hoos and making a positive impact.  

When I am not cheering on the Hoos, I am attending Zumba class, working on my food blog, or reading a thriller book.

As an out-of-state student from Cleveland Ohio, I quickly fell in love with the University of Virginia. The knowledge and values that I acquired, the experiences that I had and the friendships that I made there were fundamental for my development as an individual. I truly enjoyed and appreciated my involvement in Resident Staff, the Honor Committee, Avenue and Sigma Phi. After a great career in law, corporate America and Democratic Party politics, I have built a successful small business in the staging/design industry. I have also been committed to giving back through participation in non-profit organizations, including serving as Board Chair of the Ellington Fund for the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.

I first set foot on UVa grounds in April 2011 for “Spring Fling” – a special admittance day weekend for incoming Black students. Since then, I’ve been back on grounds every year and have worked to improve the experience for students of color that came after me. I served as the President of the Black Student Alliance for two years, and most correctly I served two terms on the Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Council. Within DC Hoos, I co-chair the Scholarship Committee, where we aim to provide scholarships to deserving and diverse matriculating first years from the DC-metro area.

“I wish I slept more in college,” said no one ever. While my tenure flew by an amazing thing happened: my college friends became family and UVA traditions became staples of my daily life. Throughout my time at The University, I was heavily involved in a smorgasbord of CIOs from Madison House to Student Government. With those final steps down the lawn as a student in the rearview, I want to provide Hoos an excuse to chant Wahoowa once again by fostering camaraderie among our family. From boat cruises to happy hours, holiday parties to networking events, my goal is to ensure our DC alums always have a reason to call Charlottesville home.

I loved my time at UVA and am so appreciative to be apart of such a vibrant alumni network! While at UVA, I enjoyed planning events for the University Guide Service and my sorority. I’m so excited to continue to do that as social co-chair! I hope to bring together DC alumni, friends, and family to form connections that strengthen our network and have some fun while doing so.

While I have many great memories from my four years at UVA, what I appreciate the most are the friendships that I built while on Grounds. Whether it was as part of the Honor Committee, Jefferson Society, Club Rugby team, IFC, or my own fraternity, I met tons of people who helped me grow as a person. As Social Chair, my goal is to host events that help DC alumni strengthen their existing friendships and (hopefully) form new ones.

I couldn’t have chosen a better place to learn and grow during college than UVA, where I was able to explore my interests throughout the community with Camp Kesem, the Women’s Center, McIntire, and the Office of Orientation and New Student Programs. After graduating in 2019 (and thoroughly celebrating all of that year’s national championship wins!), I moved to DC where I enjoy exploring the city with fellow Hoos. I’m excited to join the UVA Club of Washington board as a networking co-chair and I look forward to meeting more alums at upcoming events!

During my four incredible years in Charlottesville, I had many opportunities to see the strength of the Hoos alumni network which consistently proved to be heavily invested in the personal, educational and professional development of myself and many of my friends. I am grateful for the lifelong friendships I developed in IV, VAMT, and the Echols council, and I look forward to remaining a part of the broader UVA community as a member of the Club of Washington Board. DC has an awesome alumni presence, and I’m excited to get to know more of them in the coming year.

My time in Charlottesville will always hold a special place in my heart. When I wasn’t cheering on the Hoos at JPJ, I competed on the club sailing team, organized family-friendly events for local veterans with Students Supporting Soldier pSychology, and helped run my sorority’s annual philanthropy events. I’m thrilled to continue my involvement with UVA in DC as a co-chair for the Networking Committee, and I look forward to meeting fellow alums at our upcoming events!

I fell in love with UVA early in my college search process and haven’t looked back since! The grounds, community, academics, athletics and proximity to Northern Virginia made UVA a no-brainer for me. While at UVA, I was involved with the Club Ultimate Frisbee team, Relay For Life, Monroe Society and other groups. I find great passion in showing others all that UVA has to offer and I could often be found dragging my friends to sporting events, lectures, films, philanthropy events, etc. during college. Being away from Charlottesville makes this hobby a bit more difficult but working with the Schools Committee gives me the opportunity to fill this void. I thoroughly enjoy being able to more formally engage with incoming, current and former students and help them fall in love with Hoo-ville as much as I did. When I’m not cheering on the Hoos, I spend my time running, playing Ultimate, traveling, cooking, volunteering and playing viola. Wahoowa!

From a very young age, I felt the pull to be a part of the UVA community. Something about growing up in Northern Virginia makes you acutely aware of how deep orange and blue pride runs! During my time as a UVA student, I was heavily involved in my sorority as the VP of New Member Education and Head of Standards Board, and volunteered with Madison House. I now work as a Marketing Manager by day, runner/piano player/avid reader by night. I’m very excited about this opportunity to impart the love I have for UVA and Charlottesville on local area high school students, and – once they decide to become a Hoo – help maximize their future success. Go Hoos!

I am thrilled to co-Chair Hoos 2.0 to help bring local UVA  alums, family and friends together.  The UVA community has played an integral role in my life since 1984 when I arrived on grounds to embark upon an incredible four year journey.  My UVA friends – from first year dorms, my sorority, and classes – have shaped both my professional and personal life and many of us remain connected through an active group text that buzzes almost daily.   After graduating in 1988, I embarked upon an exciting career in International Business at Tiffany & Co, in NY while simultaneously earning my MBA in Marketing and Management at the Stern School of Business.  After relocating to Washington, DC to be closer to family, I tested my MBA skills with a start -up technology company and after learning I was expecting twins, shifted gears to the non- profit world where I have spent the last 15+ years developing and executing fundraising and communications strategies.  My passion is to help provide access to opportunities to those who otherwise would be without.  I delight spending time with my 3 young adult children and in my spare time I enjoy gardening, hiking and walking with my dogs.  I am truly looking forward to reconnecting with local UVA alums and meeting many members of our community through the UVA Club of Washington, DC.

I am delighted to re-engage with the UVA Club of Washington after serving on its Board in 1989-1990 and its Schools Committee from 1987-1997. My experiences at UVA had a lifelong effect and provided me with an incredible foundation, both professionally and in my everyday life. I am excited to co-chair Hoos 2.0 with Mary Ellen as we aim to get a wide spectrum of alums (30 years & older) in the DMV engaged in the UVA Club of Washington’s array of events targeted to multiple generations. I graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce with a concentration in Finance & worked at Arthur Andersen LLP in their real estate advisory & infrastructure privatization group before stopping to raise our 3 children. At UVA, I was active in University Union, now the UPC, Commerce Council and the Sailing Club. I am an avid UVA sports fan, particularly lacrosse, soccer, basketball and football and enjoy attending these games as often as we can, sometimes with our son (SEAS Class of 2022). I look forward to meeting a diverse group of alums of all ages at our upcoming Hoos 2.0 events!

Although I came to UVA having never set foot in the state of Virginia before, it’s safe to say that becoming a Hoo changed my life. UVA challenged me to become the best version of myself academically, professionally, and socially, and I am proud to have worn the Honors of Honor. Whether it was as an Executive Board member of the College Republicans, Alumnae Relations Chair of my sorority, or simply having dinner with friends at Trinity Irish Pub, I am thankful for everything the University gave me. I am honored to continue supporting our shared values as members of the UVA community as a co-Chair of the Service Committee, and look forward to meeting many past, present, and future Hoos at our events.

Each day I find myself increasingly thankful that I am a part of the vibrant, caring, and rock solid UVA Family. A proud 2019 graduate of the University, I served as a co-chair to the Days on the Lawn admitted students program, a Men’s Leadership Project Big Brother, and a board member on the Economics Career Office Student Advisory Board, among other activities. If you ask my alumni friends and family, they’ll tell you it’s no secret that I bleed orange and blue straight to my soul. On fall Saturdays, you’re likely to find me either at Scott Stadium or three feet from a TV cheering on the Hoos. I wholeheartedly believe in the University’s mission and President Ryan’s vision that we must be “great and good” and “elite but not elitist.” Even though my undergraduate days are but a series of wonderful memories, I am incredibly honored to serve on the board of the UVA Club of DC to help maintain, build, and strengthen the UVA Family that we all hold so dear. Wahoowa!

COMM 1989, Accounting 

I am very excited to serve on the board as I have such fond memories of my time at UVA. Being from the Philadelphia Main Line, I was the only one from my high school class to go to UVA. I was apprehensive at first but am so glad I decided to come. Chairing the Bookclub makes a lot of sense as I have been an active member for over a decade and it is a great group of Wahoos. I currently serve on two other nonprofit boards and this one will be a nice complement to those. Wahoowa!

My husband, fellow commerce alum Ned Scharpf, and I recently sold our 23 year old company Corporate Apartment Specialists. We remain partners in 18 Woodspring Suites hotels in the Southeast and Midwest and own some multi-family and single family rental properties in the DC area and beyond.
